The Nanjing-St. Louis Sister City Relationship at 40: Our Window on China

Dr. Joel Glassman has been involved with the Nanjing-St. Louis Sister City relation for its entire 40 year history. He will offer some background and history of the relationship and discuss what we can learn about China’s social, economic and political environment through the prism of this relationship.

Dr. Joel Glassman, Director Emeritus, International Studies and Program at UMSL, is a specialist in Chinese and Japanese politics and U.S. relations with East Asia. He is especially interested in Chinese education. His current research interests include state and local government programs to enhance international competitiveness, and the future of U.S.-China relations. He is also continuing his study of public policy in the People’s Republic of China and has published articles in Contemporary ChinaAsia Quarterly, and Comparative Education.
