Ernst Haas: Color Brought to Life
As one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century, Ernst Haas is considered a pioneer of color photography. After moving to the United States in 1950, Haas began experimenting with color film. This resulted in a groundbreaking 24-page color photo essay in 1986, “Images of a Magic City” spanning two issues of LIFE magazine. In 1986, the year of his death, Ernst Haas received the prestigious Hasselblad award. With his abstract aesthetic, use of color, and innovative use of technology Haas remained vital and influential over his 40-year career.
